Hello everyone! I can’t believe it’s already August! Thanks to the help of some audiobooks and graphic novels, I’ve reached my Goodreads challenge goal and am thinking of increasing the number of books. Here is my combined wrap up for June and July.
Books Read
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher ⭐⭐⭐
Trigger warning: suicide, sexual assault and rape.
I’m really conflicted about this book. Whilst it is compelling, some parts made me feel uncomfortable. In one particular scene, Hannah fails to do anything when something terrible happens to one of her ex-friends. Ok, she’s not in a good place mentally, but I still couldn’t understand that. I listened to this on audiobook and enjoyed the dual narration.
Little Witches: Magic in Concord by Leigh Dragoon ⭐⭐⭐
This is the first book I have requested from NetGalley! It’s a graphic novel adaptation of Little Women aimed at middle grade readers. The illustrations are nice and simple, although I felt like something was missing. My full review will be posted closer to the publication date in September.
Heartstopper: Volume One by Alice Oseman ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’m so happy to have discovered this webcomic! It has been published as a physical book and will be turned into a TV series! Heartstopper is about Nick and Charlie who meet at a British all-boys grammar school and develop a friendship which blossoms into love. They are just so pure and adorable! You can read the webcomic on Tumblr or Tapas.
Heartstopper: Volume Two by Alice Oseman ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Obviously I had to read more of Heartstopper because I am obsessed! Volume Two is chapter 3 of the ongoing webcomic. This series has wonderful LGBT representation. I also love the attention to detail in Alice Oseman’s artwork, like how Charlie has a poster of The Resistance by Muse in his bedroom.
Stepsister by Jennifer Donnelly ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I really enjoyed Stepsister! This is a feminist retelling of Cinderella after her happily ever after, but from the point of view of her stepsister Isabelle. I will share my review of this soon!

Yes, that’s right! I read the chapters on Tumblr and wanted to add it to my Goodreads challenge so I technically haven’t gotten the physical copies yet! Sorry for any confusion!
