Wrap Up: June 2020

Wrap Up Floral

Hello everyone! June was Pride Month so I decided to read some LGBTQ+ graphic novels. I also branched out and read poetry. This in itself was surprising because I can’t remember the last time I read a poetry collection. Thankfully, it has spurred me on to explore more poetry books in future.

Books Read

Rock and Riot Volumes 1-3 by Chelsey Furedi ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I was looking through a list of webcomics recommended by Alice Oseman here and Rock and Riot caught my eye. This is adorable! Think Grease but with queer characters. The LGBTQ+ representation is amazing and I love the artwork. It’s a super diverse, charming and feel good read. Plus there are some wonderful romances! While the books are no longer for sale, this can still be read online at Tapas.

Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur ⭐⭐⭐

Milk and Honey

Trigger warning: Rape and sexual abuse.

It’s difficult to review this book of poetry because the author shares the pain and trauma she’s been through. It did feel as if I was reading Rupi Kaur’s personal diary entries. I enjoyed some of the poems more than others. The only thing I wasn’t too keen on were the random line breaks.

  1. The artwork for Rock and Riot is so bright and fun. (I really have no better words to explain it, I hope you have some idea of what I’m going for, haha. It has an energy to it?) I’m going to check it out on Tapas– well, I read an episode and then came back to comment, to be precise. Thanks for the recommendation!
