Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is Unpopular Bookish Opinions. I’m not sure if all of these are unpopular, but here goes nothing!
Audiobooks count as reading
I listen to audiobooks as a way of reading more and recommend them! They are brilliant especially if you have a long commute.
I liked the Twilight series
Everyone seems to bash Twilight, but I enjoyed reading all of the books in the series.
You can read YA even if you’re not a young adult
Some people are quite snobbish about YA. Not me, though. I love YA!
Let children read what they want
Years ago, I remember there was a girl on my school bus who said that her parents would not allow her to read the Harry Potter books. It made me feel sad, and also grateful that my parents did not restrict my reading. Children should be allowed to read what they want, as long as it’s age-appropriate.
I don’t really re-read books
Whilst I would like to re-read some books, unfortunately my TBR is huge.
I enjoy most book to TV/film adaptations
If a book I have read has been adapted for TV or the big screen, you can bet I will watch it! Sometimes I actually prefer the adaptation to the book.
It’s ok to DNF a book
Admittedly, it’s rare for me to DNF a book. But I’ve realised that it’s fine to stop reading a book which you don’t enjoy. Life is too short.
I don’t rate DNFs
On the flip side, I think it’s unfair to rate DNFs as you haven’t read the whole book.
I like morally grey characters
I’m looking at you, Tyrion Lannister. Morally grey characters are far more interesting to read about than those who are simply good or bad.
I’m not a literary snob
I don’t think some genres or authors are better than others. You like romance books? Great! You’ve read everything by V.C. Andrews or Dan Brown? That is a-ok! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
What are your unpopular bookish opinions? Do we share any of them? Let me know in the comments and feel free to link your Top Ten Tuesday post!
