As someone who loves reading books and listening to music, I was over the moon when Sara tagged me in the Song Request Book Tag! Thank you for the tag, Sara, I had a lot of fun with this.
Rules:
- Thank and link back to tagger.
- Credit to Daniel @ Page to Page
- Listen to tagger’s song requests! After you’re done listening to the three songs the person who tagged you has chosen, choose a book that you think best goes along with that song and tell us why you chose it!
- Request 3 songs of your own! Give any three songs (and your corresponding book choices that think go well with said song) you want for your taggers to listen and respond to!
- Tag 5 people!
Sara’s Requests
1. “Bullet” by Steel Train
How have I not heard this song before? It’s so catchy! It made me think of Shahrzad and Khalid’s relationship from The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh. They definitely have conflicting emotions towards each other at first. The lyric “Now after all that we lost / I swear I’ll never let go” reminds me of their romance.
2. “King of My Heart” by Taylor Swift
While I was listening to this charming song by Swifty, The Perfectly Imperfect Woman by Milly Johnson sprang to mind. Marnie has had her heart broken and isn’t looking for love when she retreats to the village of Wychwell. She develops a friendship with a sweet guy named Herv, and eventually realises that he could be the one she’s been waiting for.
3. “Supercut” by Lorde
I think that Supercut pairs well with Jay Gatsby and Daisy from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Gatsby has a nostalgic and idealised love for Daisy. He seems to remember only the good parts of their previous relationship. It’s quite heartbreaking to read.
Cause in my head (in my head, I do everything right)
When you call (when you call, I’ll forgive and not fight)
Because ours (are the moments I play in the dark)
We were wild and fluorescent, come home to my heart
My Requests
1. “Good Grief” by Bastille
Bastille’s song goes well with The Twisted Tree by Rachel Burge. Martha experiences grief when she learns that her beloved grandmother, Mormor, has died. The line “What’s gonna be left of the world if you’re not in it?” could be a question that Martha asks herself, as she feels lost without Mormor.
2. “Clarity” by Zedd featuring Foxes
I paired Clarity with Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. The two main characters, Catherine and Heathcliff, share a passionate and destructive love affair. Cathy says of Heathcliff: “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same”.
Cause you are the piece of me I wish I didn’t need
Chasing relentlessly, still fight and I don’t know why
If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?
If our love’s insanity, why are you my clarity?
3. “Hypnotised” by Years & Years
Years & Years wrote this song for the Baz Luhrmann-directed short film, The Secret Life of Flowers.
This song is hauntingly beautiful. Hypnotised reminds me of Bella and Edward’s relationship from Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Bella is drawn to Edward from the first time that she sees him. While I do have a penchant for Native American guys, I was always team Edward lol.

Feel free to do this tag even if I didn’t tag you! I’m excited to see your book choices for the songs I picked! ❤
Do you mind if I tag myself in this?! Such a cool idea

I’m so glad you did this and I’m so happy that you liked Bullet! I haven’t read The Wrath & the Dawn or The Perfectly Imperfect Woman, but if those books pair well with songs I love, I think I should probably check them out! I’m also a big fan of Bastille and Good Grief is one of my favorites. 🙂

I either didn’t know the book or didn’t know your song choice so I have a feeling I’m going to have to dedicate some time to research – and listening to these songs!! I wasn’t expecting some music recommendations today but I’m all here for it.

I’ve never seen this tag before! (or any of these songs, and I thought I was a fan of some of those groups/singers… oops!) I love your pick of Wrath&Dawn for Bullet.
