How my blog started:
After university, I decided to pay a visit back to my secondary school. Whilst there, I mentioned to my English teacher that I was finding it difficult to get into publishing. She suggested that I start a book blog. So I did! At first I posted book reviews and then gradually started writing other bookish-related posts as well. Although publishing is still the dream job, I’ve learnt so much about books and beyond from my fellow bloggers.
Advice for new bloggers:
Using relevant tags in your posts is a good way to increase traffic. Say for example you’re posting a book review. A few general tags to use could include “books” and “book review”. Specific tags to use are the title, author and genre. This way, if someone searches for that tag, your post will appear in the Reader. But don’t use too many tags! WordPress states in their help pages: “If you use more than 15 tags and categories (total), your posts will not appear on tag pages”. This limit is used to prevent spam blogs.
Connect with other bloggers. When I first started blogging, I was quite shy about commenting on other people’s blogs. Since then I’ve learnt that it’s nice to receive a comment!
No worries if you’ve already been nominated or prefer to skip this.
Thank you again to Rachel for nominating me.
