Book Review: A Storm of Swords 2: Blood and Gold by George R.R. Martin

11539233Robb Stark is caught in the middle of his foes. The hard Ironmen have taken the north and in the south the cruel Lannisters continue to hold his sister Sansa their captive. Robb must also appease prickly Walder Frey, Lord of the Crossing, as he needs Frey’s men for battle in the north. Elsewhere, a thousand leagues north, the Wall is in danger of being breached by Mance Rayder and the wildlings, as well as the Others.

My review

Some of the characters like Jaime and Sandor Clegane end up surprising you. Even though they’re the ‘bad guys’, there is a lot of grey area. Similarly, a few other suspect characters turn out to be ruthless.

Early on in this novel, Martin gives the reader clues that something bad is going to happen, but it is unpredictable and shocking. It left me stunned! Also, there are surprising revelations in Blood and Gold which explain some of the mysteries from the previous books in the series.

Gripping and clever, with lots of attention to detail. This is the most explosive book in the series so far.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
